Economic Development Administration Redevelopment Assistance rescope, worth up to $2.7 Million
In 2019, Dana worked with a Northern California City to secure approval to revise the scope of their proposal for an Economic Development Agency (EDA) and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant. Without the assistance of Capitol Advocacy Partners, the rescope was initially rejected and the $2.7M in funds was in jeopardy. Dana communicated the local Congressman who sent a letter to EDA on behalf of the City advocating for a rescope. These efforts led to EDA changing their position.
Dana organized a working Congressional group in 2010 to help a California Central Valley city fight off efforts by the Economic Development Administration to force it to repay $2.6 million of a $3.2 million grant used to build its Vocational Center. Efforts resulted in EDA approving a new tenant lease, creating 90 new jobs and training 240 students in the first year alone.
Successful opposition of Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) legislation, worth over $100 Million annually to California Cities.
On behalf of several California cities, Dana worked closely with the staff of the House Ways & Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the California Congressional Delegation to fight off efforts of online travel companies to withhold some of the transient occupancy taxes (TOT) they owe to cities.
$500,000 in re-awarded funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
Dana worked to reverse a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development ruling that would have required a California city to return more than $500,000 in FY98 HOME and CDBG funds for a project that HUD had declared terminated and for which it demanded repayment.
Secured $3.4 Million in grant funding through multiple awards for semiconductor company
Wrote U.S. Department of Energy ARPA-E grant for company to develop a new, low-cost gate driver integrated circuit (IC) for use with GaN switches, an important component for controlling variable speed electric motors (VSD) in appliances. Award was one of only 21 nationwide.
Secured $2.4M competitive research contract with a branch of the armed services for cutting-edge energy efficiency technology.
Amended legislation (H.R. 1002, the Wireless Tax Fairness Act), to ensure that California cities are able to raise revenue pursuant to Proposition 218
If not amended, H.R. 1002 would have overridden the will of California voters and limited their ability to modify their local wireless taxes systems.
Nearly $1 Million in California Proposition 47 Funding
Capitol Advocacy Partners worked closely with the California Board of State and Community Corrections to obtain $999,881 for a Northern California city to support operation of a new Housing Navigation Center intended to move people living on the streets into permanent housing.
