10/4/17: DACA Update

The House Homeland Security Committee today approved a border security bill along party lines that includes $10 billion for a border wall. The Border Security for America Act (H.R. 3548) also authorizes 10,000 extra border agents and allows the federal government to reimburse sates of to $35 million for use of National Guard assets to reinforce border security and includes $5 billion for ports of entry.

The bill now heads to the House floor but has little chance of becoming law. Supporters of the rescinded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program allege that this is a first shot to tie border security provisions to potential legislation to protect DACA recipients...
